Job Description

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for the Dominica Campus the Director of the Health Clinic is responsible for the operational aspects, leadership, and direction of service quality and processes for the Health Clinic which includes medical and administrative staff. The Director of the Health Clinic will also be responsible to ensure that students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders receive high quality service while maintaining compliance with various medical guidelines and regulations.

This position combines teaching and primary care medicine. Ross University School of Medicine has its main medical campus on the "nature island" of the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies. There are approximately 1,300 pre-clinical students who attend school on the island for 4 or 5 semesters. In addition healthcare is provided for about 600 faculty and staff. The student health clinic is an ambulatory clinic with 4 exam rooms, a treatment room and an emergency room.

The goal is to have 2 physicians who are responsible for administration of the health center and provide oversight and assist the healthcare team. The healthcare team includes 3 additional physicians, all well-trained and experienced in primary care as well as emergency medicine.

The teaching responsibilities account for 50% of time and are in the Department of Clinical Medicine. There is a state-of-the-art simulation center with 6 rooms as well as Harvey mannequins and airway stations. The focus of clinical teaching is small-group (8-10 students) skills training that complements the basic science teaching. Examination skills are introduced into the first semester and built on in subsequent semesters.
