Job Description
Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for the Dominica Campus the Director of the Health Clinic is responsible for the operational aspects, leadership, and direction of service quality and processes for the Health Clinic which includes medical and administrative staff. The Director of the Health Clinic will also be responsible to ensure that students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders receive high quality service while maintaining compliance with various medical guidelines and regulations.
Responsibilities:
This position combines teaching and primary care medicine. Ross University School of Medicine has its main medical campus on the "nature island" of the Commonwealth of Dominica, West Indies. There are approximately 1,300 pre-clinical students who attend school on the island for 4 or 5 semesters. In addition healthcare is provided for about 600 faculty and staff. The student health clinic is an ambulatory clinic with 4 exam rooms, a treatment room and an emergency room.
The goal is to have 2 physicians who are responsible for administration of the health center and provide oversight and assist the healthcare team. The healthcare team includes 3 additional physicians, all well-trained and experienced in primary care as well as emergency medicine.
The teaching responsibilities account for 50% of time and are in the Department of Clinical Medicine. There is a state-of-the-art simulation center with 6 rooms as well as Harvey mannequins and airway stations. The focus of clinical teaching is small-group (8-10 students) skills training that complements the basic science teaching. Examination skills are introduced into the first semester and built on in subsequent semesters.
Qualifications:

North American trained physician, board certified in a relevant area including family medicine, emergency medicine, internal medicine (med-peds especially) and others.
5-7 years management experience, preferably in a health field.
An active license to practice medicine in the United States or Canada is required.
A current certificate of BLS (basic life support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) of the American Heart Association or equivalent is required.
Proficient in the use of computers including Microsoft Office.
Hands-on and versatile leadership qualities and the ability to manage change in a fast paced environment.
Ability to manage, motivate and develop medical staff is required.
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills and demonstrate the ability to foster collaboration across diverse groups of constituents, including students, faculty, management, system developers, and other staff.
Operational experience managing in a dynamic and challenging environment.
Available to meet domestic and international travel requirements.
