Job Description
Provide direct patient care to the patients of Pine Hill Health Center. To assist Medical Director in health care planning and staff education.
Job Duties:
1. Perform physical examinations; order laboratory and radiological procedures as necessary, diagnose the nature and extent of illness or injury, prescribe indicated medicaitons and treatments; make referals for additional medical evaluation and treatment as appropriate under authorized licensure.
2. Administers or directs the administrtion of specified oral, intramuscular and intravenous medications; performs or directs the performance of therapeutic measures; performs specialized procedures; manages medical emergencies and initiates appropriate therapeutic measures along with performing various routine clinical procedures.
3. Supervises mid-level providers, as needed, in the performance of their duties.
4. Physician will counsel patients concerning health care and preventive medicine practices, compile patient histories and keep proper medical records on each patient seen.
5. Physician will care for orthopedic patients, including the application of splints and traction, applicaiton and removal of casts, and performing minor emergency procedures.
6. Assists the Clinic Administrator and Medical Director in planning and implementation of health services for the Ramah Navajo Community.
7. Assists in conducting medical education requirements and appropriate in-service training for clinical staff.
8. Provides expertise with various regional agencies and Indian Health Service in improving the emergency and medical services.
9. Attends and actively participates in meetings and workshops relating to the improved functioning of the clinic.
10. Particpate in committee presentations, work groups and projects relating to improving the qualify of health care in the community.
Qualifications:
1. Possession of or eligible for licensure as a Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathy in the State of New Mexico. Must have a valid medical license in good standing in any other state in the United States.
2. Considerable knowledge of accepted principles and practices of general clinical medicine. Family practice residency or experience preferred.
3. Considerable knowledge of administration and probable effects of prescribed medications, treatment and diagnostic procedures. Skill in the application of required medical techniques.
4. Ability to react calmly and efficiently in emergency medical situations.
5. Ability to plan and effectively supervise the work of health professionals and para-professionals and technicians in the overall medical operation of the Pine Hill Health Center.
6. Ability to plan/conduct/coordinate periodic in-service training for upgrading skills of community paraprofessionals and technical staff in order to promote local self-sufficiency.
7. Understanding of and ability to work with staff and patients in a bi-culturel Native American setting.
8. Ability to empathize with patients and their families.
9. Ability to inspire the cooperation of patients and staff.
10. Experience working with EMS staff preferred.
11. Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing in order to keep accurate and legible records, prepare timely reports, written correspondence, etc.
12. Ability to advocate for the community regarding Indian Self-determination in health related mattes with federal, state, county and other pertinent officials and agencies.
13. Ability to maintain a high level of patient confidentiality.
14. Must be computer literate.
15. Must be proficient in and/or have working knowledge of and/or use of Electronic Health Records (EHR).
