Clinical Medicine Faculty opportunity
Ross University School of Medicine, located on the Caribbean island of Dominica in the West Indies, invites applications for a faculty post at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank in the Department of Clinical Medicine.
Department Overview:
The Clinical Department is the largest on RUSM's campus with more than 50 faculty members. The department encompasses a state-of-the-art simulation center, a standardized patient program, and a clinical skills laboratory. The Clinical Medicine program includes basic clinical skills training in small group learning sessions on campus and a bedside teaching program at the Princess Margaret Hospital delivered by adjunct faculty based at the hospital. The Department provides oversight of all activities related to clinical medicine on the island of Dominica as well as coordinating with the basic science disciplines on campus to integrate clinical medicine into the curriculum of the basic sciences in the 4 or 5 preclinical semesters offered at RUSM.
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Clinical Medicine, this role will:
Deliver effective lectures on clinical correlations of basic science content
The prepare course materials (handouts, videos, etc.)
Create and review both practice and examination questions according to NBME guidelines
Facilitate small group case based learning activities
Facilitate and debrief medical simulation activities
Facilitate basic and advanced medical interview training in small groups
Facilitate physical examination training of students in small groups
Advise individuals or groups of students in academic matters and matters of professional behavior and exercise professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel
Develop new instructional materials and
Learn and apply small group teaching techniques within course activities
Participate in on-going reviews and revisions of clinical skills and lecture curriculum
Actively participate in relevant professional activities in order to improve teaching and subject matter competence
Serve on faculty committees as appointed or elected, and confer with advisory groups in order to modify course content
Prepare, administer and evaluate practical examinations to assess the development of student clinical and competency skills
Participate in other activities as assigned by the department chair or executive dean
Qualifications:
M.D., or other relevant terminal degree with 1-3 years of relevant experience
An active medical license or expired medical license, which is in good standing
Strong teaching skills and experience or evidence of potential
Interest in medical education
Desire for self-improvement
Flexibility and ability to work well on a team
Preference will be given to an applicant with proven teaching skills within the areas covered by the department
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Willingness to reside in Dominica, West Indies
