HMC was formed in 1991 through the merger of two private hospitals - today, this 194-bed facility offers medical, surgical, and pediatric care. HMC provides cardiac, neonatal and intensive care units, as well as cancer, joint care, and rehabilitation services.HMC prides itself on its DeBakey Heart Institute, a ground breaking institution that provides cardiac services for Hays and the rest of Western Kansas. As one of the largest Critical Access providers, HMC earned the 1997 National Rural Health Association Outstanding Program for its EACH/RPCH and Telemedicine programs.The Hays Medical Center Emergency Department sees over 12,500 patients annually. The HMC 8-bed ED offers 24-hour CT and MRI, as well as MSCT, SpedCT, and ultrasound services.
