Known by most as "The Gateway to Logan Martin Lake," much of Pell City borders the picturesque waters, an inviting scene to all who visit and all who choose to call this special place home. Thriving commercial districts line either side of U.S. 231, a major thoroughfare running through the heart of the city, and just north of Interstate 20, which connects Atlanta and Birmingham.
We are in St. Clair County which is designated Federal Medically Underserved Area (MUA) with a rating of 50. It is designated a Health Professional Shortage Area and the Primary Care HPSA score is 6.
The average income per household in Pell City is estimated at $48,300, nearly $12,000 more than the average income for the state of Alabama. Unemployment rate for St. Clair County is 5.7%, among the lowest in the state.
St. Clair County is the third fastest growing county in Alabama with an estimated 30% rise in population from 2000 to 2010 to nearly 85,000. Ethnic breakdown for the local economy area is:
White Non-Hispanic (82.5%)
African American (15.4%)
Hispanic (1.3%)
A significant portion of Pell City is located on Logan Martin Lake and the city itself traditionally has been considered a lake retirement community, but recent years have seen an emergence of job growth and incomes rising. Major employers come from the automotive industry, particularly Honda manufacturing of Alabama in nearby Lincoln and suppliers for Honda and Mercedes. Associated and non-associated light manufacturing industries have fueled significant growth to the local population. Our average age - while still above the Alabama average at 38, is dropping due to the influx of younger families who have greater employment and enhanced housing and quality of life opportunities.
Recreational offerings are among the best in the state. Schools are nationally accredited. Quality health care is central to the city. And houses of worship, representing virtually every denomination, are welcoming.
Yes, Pell City is the Gateway to Logan Martin Lake, but as you can readily see, it is the gateway to much, much more.
At St. Vincents St. Clair, we believe our community deserves quality health care close to home. Thats why we bring inpatient, outpatient, and advanced diagnostic services together to enhance the quality of life for families in our community.
