Job Description
Overview: The Physician is a member of the clinical team, who provides medical patient care by interviewing, examining and treating of clinical patients in order to meet their medical needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide urgent and non-urgent health care for individuals two (2) months of age and older in the Urgent and Primary Care Practice Specialty.
Provide health maintenance and preventative services to individual patients as recommended by accepted guidelines and when clinically indicated.
Perform appropriate ambulatory procedures within the scope of the providers training and expertise.
Order appropriate laboratory, x-ray, and other diagnostic test; interprets the total medical and surgical evidence, incorporating information into an accurate diagnosis or appraisal; institute proper treatment and patient care.
Facilitates patient access to continuing medical care by appropriate referrals/consults to other health care providers and operating within the policies and regulations of the hospital.
Act as the patient advocate to ensure that the patient will receive timely appropriate health care.
Examine and treat patients and perform diagnostic procedures.
Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Facilitates the patients transition within and between health care settings; refer and transfer patients for specialty care, provide follow-up care and discharge patients.
Maintains continuity among clinical teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Supervises mid-level medical practitioners based on collaborative agreement (physician assistants and nurse practitioners).
Physician will be required to review and approve assigned midlevel charts in accordance with applicable state law.
Develops treatment plans for acute and chronic diseases.
Educates patients on wellness, prevention and early detection by providing materials and resources to the patients and families.
Determines level of urgency of follow-up, referral/consultation appointments and overall comprehensive patient care plan.
Exercises final medical judgment in all issues of patient healthcare.
On-call responsibilities as required to cover the needs of the Practice.
Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
Ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients, the confidentiality of the health record and department documents, and adhering to HIPAA Regulations
Maintain medical license and board certification by participating in continuing medical education activities and doing professional reading in the area of practice specialty to remain abreast of significant developments and to comply with licensing requirements.
Maintain a positive working relationship with the other disciplines within the practice including nursing services, the front desk, practice management, outside Specialists and others.
Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings; evaluates selected medical records of patients, case notes and discharge letters of patients at peer review.
Other duties, tasks or projects assigned and/or determined by the clinic needs and provider.
Performing usual professional responsibilities related to ACSH healthcare practice including, without limitation, (i) participating in administrative meetings; (ii) cooperating in quality assurance, utilization review and peer review programs; (iii) assisting American CareSource in complying with any requirements of regulatory bodies; and (iv) working cooperatively with administrative personnel to assure well-organized and efficient healthcare services operations.
Education and Experience: The Physician must maintain a current state medical license in practicing state, current D.E.A. Certificate, must be Board Eligible 1 (one) year from the start date of employment and must sit for the board examination 1 (one) year from the date of eligibility or Board Certified in ER, IM or FP; possess a current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR); and an ACLS or Advanced Life Support Certification.
The Physician must have the patience and tact to deal with the patient population and ability to work effectively in the primary care / urgent care environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands:
Works in a clean, well-lit environment with fluctuating temperatures. Requires lifting and carrying equipment and supplies weighing up to 35 lbs. approximately 30% of the time; requires walking and standing approximately 50% of the time; requires sitting approximately 20% of the time; occasional ascending/descending stairs. The ability to reach or bend frequently is required. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate equipment and dispense medications. Potential for exposure to blood and/or body substances and hazardous materials requiring observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of EClinical Works and Microsoft Office Products.
