Psych Nurse Practitioner

Job Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:



Under the clinical supervision of the Collaborating Physician and administrative supervision of the Director of Outpatient Services of the Robert Young Center for Community Mental Health, practices autonomously and in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage clients psychiatric illnesses. Provides psychiatric evaluations, medication management and brief psychotherapy. Collaborates, consults and/or refers patients to a psychiatrist when appropriate to ensure quality patient care.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



A. EDUCATION, TRAINING EXPERIENCE: Must have a master s degree from an accredited Advanced Nurse Practitioner Program. Licensure as an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and active certification by American Nurses Credentialing Center. Must have psychiatric experience in a mental health outpatient setting.

B. KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES SKILLS: Must have a high degree of knowledge of psychopharmacological and DSM IV symptomatology. Must have the ability to establish effective consultative relationships among a variety of staff and outside agencies, health providers and the community and work sensitively with patients. Must have excellent communication skills and professional manner and presentation. Must have the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and diagnosis of the patients served. Must have knowledge of involuntary hospitalization laws pertaining to mental impairment. Must have working knowledge of managed care concepts and practices. Must be able to write legibly and be organized with documentation. Must have basic knowledge of computers, Microsoft Word and Outlook. Able to work with minimal day-to-day direction. Must be able to handle multiple priorities and to maintain composure under stress. Must be able to assess for suicide lethality.







C. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS: Must have current federal and Iowa and/or IL DEA license. Must have current RN Iowa and/or IL license. Must have current ARNP Iowa and/or IL license. Must have valid driver s license with valid auto insurance.
