Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner of Wound Center



GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Manages, coordinates and evaluates care of the Wound patients. The ARNP, by training, interest and profession, plans and problems solves with staff and other physicians on issues directly relating to patient care. He/she will work closely with the Program Director and Clinic Nurse Manager.









JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:







Demonstrates competence in the skills, (processes, procedures, and equipment) necessary to carry out assigned duties as identified below. Demonstrates competence in recognizing and responding to patients' physical, mental, emotional and developmental needs. Each should be evaluated in relation to the patient populations served as appropriate for each responsibility.

The ARNP is responsible, in conjunction with Center Management Team, for being thoroughly familiar with and the implementation of the Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) within his/her Center.In collaboration with the PD, he/she should ensure that necessary modifications are made to the PIP to ensure compliance with local Medical Staff Rules, Regulations and Bylaws

Assists in leading the interdisciplinary performance improvement initiatives that monitor the performance of the Center and ensure compliance with its written policies with the input of the Program Director.

With the support of the PD, ensure the Center meets the requirements of all regulatory and accrediting agencies, including, but not limited to, the State Health Facility Licensing Agency, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO), and the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS).In cooperation with Hospital designated personnel and in conjunction with programs established by the Hospital thereafter, provide patient care assessment and program evaluation services with respect to all services provided at the Center and ensure that appropriate action is taken at the Center, based on the findings of such programs

Review the Center Medical Records and process of care on all patients enrolled at the Center every 4 weeks for each major wound type.

In cooperation with the Medical Director, Hospital Administration and Program Director, review and respond to any complaints and grievances and recommend or take corrective action where appropriate, in accordance with the bylaws, rules and regulations of the Hospital or Hospital s Medical Staff, as the case may warrant.

The ARNP will participate in Regional and National Medical Director conference(s) related to wound care improvement or new wound care information.

The ARNP will use all reasonable efforts to facilitate attending physicians and nursing personnel to adhere to Clinical Practice Guidelines and the Hospital/Medical staff patient care policies. The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner will monitor physician and nursing staff documentation to ensure completeness, timeliness and accuracy of coding. The ARNP is responsible, with the Medical Director, for HBO chamber quality and safety.He/she must ensure that every treatment is for an approved indication and that there is a physician present for every treatment in accordance with local rules and regulations.He/she must further ensure that the physician s presence is appropriately documented and there are orders and progress notes for each treatment. He/she must also ensure that there is an appropriately trained safety director appointed for the Hyperbaric Unit.

Supervise the provision of services by all professional and ancillary staff at the Center and provide in-service education programs for such staff as may be required.

The ARNP shall assist the Medical Director in providing training and orientation of all WCC Physicians.He/she shall schedule new WCC physicians to attend the Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine and Problem Wound Management Course or another equivalent approved course.He/she shall be responsible for conducting a new physician orientation program in which all new wound care physicians will demonstrate to the Medical Director an adequate knowledge of the Clinical Practice Guidelines, routine and high tech dressings along with debridement techniques and levels

The ARNP shall provide a means for continuing wound care education, introducing new advances in wound healing as well as new product reviews.He/she shall, also, from time to time review wound care basics such as the factors that inhibit wound healing, etc.

The ARNP shall serve as an educational resource for the entire WCC including the medical, nursing and administrative staff.

Enhance the marketability of the Center services and promote the use of such services among the local medical community.

Provide regular formal presentations to various audiences (i.e., medical staff meetings, hospital department meetings, grand rounds presentations, local medical and community organizations, service clubs, etc.) to enhance the visibility of the WCC in the local marketplace and surrounding environments when required.

Actively schedule and participate in one-on-one discussions about Center services with primary care and surgical specialties.

-

Act as spokesperson for WCC services when local media opportunities arise.

The ARNP shall maintain a working knowledge of resources.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:







-

EDUCATION, TRAINING EXPERIENCE:MSN, Board-Eligible or Board Certified, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner licensure to practice in both Iowa and Illinois; Current BLS Certification and ACLS.; Two years related experience and/or training preferred; No restrictions on the incumbent s ability to practice medicine.

Licensed to practice in Iowa/Illinois

Must be UHMS or Healogics certified
