The Acute Care Unit is a 30-bed unit within the Masonicare Health Center in Wallingford, CT. Average Daily Census on the unit is only 10 patients. A wonderful opportunity to practice hospitalist medicine, your way!
Full Time, Day Shift position
Monday-Friday, 8 hr days
The HOSPITALIST PHYSICIAN provides medical care to patients of the Acute Care Hospital Unit at the Masonicare Health Center. Supervises and oversees all clinical activity by other providers in these locations. Enforces policies and procedures when appropriate.
HOSPITALIST PHYSICIAN - Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. In the ACU, will serve as the primary attending for patients admitted there and is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of clinical services
2. Serves as supervising MD to the NPP seeing medical consult patients on the GMPP. Will see patients there in accordance with the established policy and procedures
3. Is in charge of overseeing and serving as the liaison to other MMS providers who work in the ACU
4. Is responsible for overseeing all clinicians compliance with established ACU policies and procedures as well as state and federal regulations
5. Will help to develop, coordinate and initiate quality improvement and patient satisfaction efforts in the ACU
6. Will maintain continuing medical education and teaching efforts in the ACU and outside as it applies to other staff, nursing and the rotating UConn Medical Intern
7. Will serve as an advocate for further volume growth in our ACU
8. Treats life-threatening emergencies following protocols as warranted
9. Writes progress notes on patients' charts or in the electronic medical record indicating patient status and treatment of procedures performed
10. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures within designated clinical privileges
11. Participates in staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
MD - Board Certification in Internal Medicine strongly preferred
Experience: Current license as a physician in the State of Connecticut
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience in institutional setting with Geriatric emphasis strongly preferred
Working Conditions: Exposed to infection from disease-bearing specimens. May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases. Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases. Exposed to hazardous anesthetic agents, body fluids and wastes. Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Subject to many interruptions. Subject to long irregular hours. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. MPCP may terminate the employment agreement immediately if physician loses state license suspended hospital privileges for more than 30 days revocation, suspension or limitation of authorization from the state or US Drug Enforcement Agency to prescribe narcotics and other
drugs loss of Medicare or Medicaid participation.
