Job Description
OUTPATIENT ONCOLOGY PALLIATIVE CARE PHYSICIANS
In late 2016, Miami Cancer Institute, the regions first true destination cancer center, will move into its spectacular new 395,0000 square foot home on the campus of Baptist Hospital of Miami, and usher in a new era of highly navigated, evidence-based innovative cancer care serving patients from South Florida and regions beyond, including Latin America and the Caribbean. The Institutes deep and functional alliance with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (one of only 5 or 6 such MSKCC alliance partnerships in the nation) will greatly accelerate its mission of rapidly becoming a clinical academic center, supported by the resources of one the most successful not-for-profit health systems in the country, Baptist Health South Florida.
The Institute has already recruited luminary physicians from academic institutions around the nation to lead its many programs . Most prominent is its new CEO, Dr. Michael Zinner, most recently clinical director of the Dana Farber/Brigham and Womens Cancer Center, and former surgeon-in-chief at Brigham and Womens Hospital.
One of the ten pillars of care of Miami Cancer Institute is palliative care. It has been elevated to its own pillar because of its increasingly critical role in the overall care of the patient with cancer. We are seeking to hire several enterprising physicians to work in our unique outpatient oncology palliative care program at Miami Cancer Institute, housed in its own carefully designed Palliative Care Suite, a unique non-clinical environment conducive to the role of the palliatrician. These physicians, empowered by the Institutes leadership, will be mentored by our experienced Director of Cancer Patient Support Services and the Deputy Director and Chief Medical Officer, an experienced medical oncologist. The physicians will be tasked to organize the program; carry on a busy outpatient palliative care practice; establish successful liaison with the Institutes oncologists; establish smooth transitions between the outpatient setting and inpatient setting (where a separate general population inpatient palliative care program resides); work with advanced practice providers, who will partner with them for the purpose of providing this valuable service to as many patients as possible conduct clinical research for the purposes of improving care and examining the benefits of such a program.
Experience is preferable, but not required. We are willing to work with well trained, motivated physicians right out of fellowship who share our vision and mission.
This is a unique opportunity to be in on the ground floor of an exciting new cancer program, to help establish a unique palliative care program for cancer patients, and to leave ones lasting imprint on the program and the lives of patients and their surrogates. You will be most welcome by the leadership of the Cancer Institute, the executive leadership of the health system, the oncology physicians and the philanthropic community.
Baptist Health broke ground on the $400 million Miami Cancer Institute,, located on the Baptist Hospital campus, in August 2014. The four-story complex, totaling 395,000 square feet, will consolidate outpatient clinical services, a dedicated cancer clinical trials and genomic medicine building and signature technology platforms under one roof. A new inpatient floor designed specifically for the needs of cancer patients will connect to the Institute via a walking bridge.
Our comprehensive clinical service offerings, in addition to medical oncology and radiation oncology care, will also include:
*diagnostic imaging
*an extraordinary infusion suite
*bone marrow transplant services
*TomoTherapy, GammaKnife, Cyberknife and the regions first proton therapy unit.
Baptist Health South Florida, and its network of hospitals, specialty centers and outpatient facilities, set in one of the most vibrant cities on earth, is known as an award-winning workplace, with a high level of patient care. The physicians taking these jobs will be warmly welcomed and will work within an exciting new cancer center focused on patients and the patient experience, innovation and exceptional outcomes.
We offer a competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package, including malpractice, CME, Medical/Dental/Vision, Life/AD&D insurance, relocation expenses, and more.
Come and be part of something extraordinary!
