Physician Opportunity -- Gastroenterologist

Location-St. Joseph Health Center West-Lake St. Louis, MO

Position Description:

SSM St. Charles Clinic Medical Group, a 300 physician multi-specialty group headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, is actively recruiting for a Gastroenterologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive organs, including the stomach, bowels, liver, and gallbladder. The physician treats conditions such as abdominal pain, ulcers, diarrhea, cancer, and jaundice and performs complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures using endoscopes to visualize internal organs.


- M.D. or D.O.
- Completion of an ACGME or AOA Gastroenterology Fellowship Program
- Board Eligible in Gastroenterology, with expectation of passing certification examination within two years, or Board Certified
- Missouri Medical License
- DEA certificate


Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

In addition to clinical skills the Gastroenterologist must possess excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication, and professionalism with an emphasis on integrity, a commitment to excellence, and ethical principles of clinical care. Also required are an ability to exercise confidentiality of patient information, informed consent, business practices, demonstration of respect, and regard for the needs of the patient. Computer literacy is a requirement. Gastroenterologist at SSM Health needs to be (or rapidly become) comfortable and proficient in using the electronic medial record system and communicating electronically. They will need to be (or rapidly become) comfortable and proficient in using other electronic tools such as email, mychart, PACS, LMS, etc. They will need to be (or rapidly become) comfortable in interpreting spreadsheets since many reports are distributed in that format. It is a requirement that all Gastroenterologists be timely in completing medical records. On occasion the Gastroenterologist will be expected to work on weeks or extended hours. The new physician is also expected to adhere to the basic SSM Health values of Excellence, Integrity, Teamwork, Service, and Initiative.

- Examine, diagnose, and treat adult patients of all ages in a clinic and hospital setting.
- Diagnose, treat and manage patients with such conditions as colon polyps, colon cancer, hepatitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, pancreatitis, colitis, gallbladder disease, peptic ulcer disease and other medical conditions that disrupt the normal function of the digestive tract.
The ability to perform the following procedures:
- Colonoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic
- Upper Endoscopy, diagnostic and therapeutic
- Capsule Endoscopy, placement and interpretation
- Ability to manage GI Bleed
- 48 Hour Ph
- PEG Placement
- Paracentesis

Preferred Procedures for all Gastroenterologist
- ERCP, diagnostic and therapeutic
- Esophageal Motility Study interpretation
- EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy)
- EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound)

Optional Procedures for all Gastroenterologist
- Endoscopic Ultrasound
- Anorectal Manometry interpretation
- Barrett s Esophageal Ablation
