Job Description
Overview
The Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible for performing all services that mid-level providers customarily perform in a primary care and urgent care setting. These services shall be of the highest professional quality, consistent with the Mid-level Providers credentials. The Mid-level Provider shall perform such duties in accordance with the policies and standards of GoNow Doctors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The PA/NP is a member of the site-based clinical team under the supervision of the site-based physician lead must possess the following knowledge:
1. Major disease conditions, including pathophysiology, signs, symptoms, diagnostic tests, management and treatment;
2. Basic pharmacology, including actions, reactions, and interactions;
3. Control and prevention of communicable disease;
4. Principles and techniques of effective interviewing;
5. Wellness to illness continuum;
6. Case management techniques;
7. Health systems, agencies and patterns of referral;
8. Medical documentation procedures; and
9. Principles of teaching-learning theory.
Provide urgent and non-urgent health care for individuals two (6) months of age and older in the Urgent and Primary Care Practice Specialty.
Examine and treat patients, perform diagnostic procedures, and consult with other providers.
Orders, interprets, and evaluates diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's clinical problems and health care needs.
Prescribes or recommends drugs or other forms of treatment such as physical therapy, inhalation therapy, or related therapeutic procedures.
Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
Facilitates the patients transition within and between health care settings; refer and transfer patients for specialty care, provide follow-up care and discharge patients.
Maintains continuity among nursing teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
Develops treatment plans for acute and chronic diseases.
Educate and guide patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits.
Discusses case with physician and other health professionals to prepare comprehensive patient care plan.
On-call responsibilities as required to cover the needs of the Practice.
Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
Ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients, the confidentiality of the health record and department documents, and adhering to HIPAA Regulations
Participate in continuing medical education activities and doing professional reading in the Mid-level Provider's field sufficient to remain abreast of significant developments and to comply with licensing requirements.
Maintaining a positive working relationship with the other disciplines within the practice including nursing services, the front desk, practice management, outside Specialists and others. Keeping and maintaining appropriate records, reports and correspondence related to Mid-level Provider's services in accordance with all applicable Laws, Policies and Standards.
Other duties, tasks or projects assigned and/or determined by the clinic needs and provider.
Performing usual professional responsibilities related to GoNow Doctors healthcare practice including, without limitation, (i) participating in administrative meetings; (ii) cooperating in quality assurance, utilization review and peer review programs; (iii) assisting GoNow Doctors in complying with any requirements of regulatory bodies; and (iv) working cooperatively with administrative personnel to assure well-organized and efficient healthcare services operations.
Qualifications, Education and Experience:
The midlevel provider must be board certified. The Physician Assistant must have a masters of science level degree from an accredited graduate school institute; and an advanced degree in Family Practice from an AMA / AAPA approved and accredited Physician Assistant Program. The Nurse Practitioner must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an advanced degree in an approved and accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
Mid-level Providers must be licensed to practice in the state within which services are provided; must possess and maintain current DEA number/CDS licensure (if applicable) and CPR certification.
The Mid-level Provider must have the patience and tact to deal with the patient population and ability to work effectively in the primary care / urgent care environment. Scheduling flexibility is also required to be able to rotate hours and shifts, if needed, and to be called during emergency situations to provide coverage.
