The Opportunity: Sparrow Hospital, located in Lansing, Michigan has full time openings for an Adult Hospitalist Nurse Practitioner. Sparrow Health System (SHS) is a 733 bed plus tertiary care center which provides quality care to tens of thousands of people each year and is Mid-Michigan's premier health care organization and the region's largest private employer. Sparrow has two Lansing campuses, affiliate hospitals in St. Johns, Carson City and Ionia, dozens of satellite care centers, two health maintenance organizations (Physician Health Plan of mid-Michigan and the Sparrow Physicians Health Plan), the Sparrow Health Science Pavilion and the highly popular Michigan Athletic Club. Sparrow Hospital, the flagship of the Sparrow Health System, was established in 1896 and is the regional center for cancer, trauma, pediatrics, orthopedics, neonatal intensive care, and neurological care. The Sparrow Hospital emergency room is the only Level 1 Trauma Center in mid-Michigan. Sparrow St. Lawrence campus serves as the regional center for dialysis, behavioral health, hospice, and long-term acute care.

Sparrow is proud to be Michigan's first member of the prestigious Mayo Clinic Care Network, a formal collaboration that will help Mayo Clinic and Sparrow provide the best possible care for mid-Michigan. Through this formal collaboration, Sparrow Physicians have direct access to the latest Mayo Clinic expertise and clinical care resources. Sparrow was named one of the best-performing health systems in the nation in a prestigious annual study released by Thomas Reuters and Modern Healthcare. SHS was nationally ranked in the top 20 percent of medium-sized health systems and was the only health system in the mid-Michigan region to earn this recognition. Sparrow Hospital has also earned the nation's most prestigious honor for nursing achievement and excellence: Magnet Designation. Considered the gold standard for nursing care in hospitals, Magnet status is held by only about six percent of American Hospitals. Sparrow is ranked first in the health care industry and 16th overall among all U.S. companies on the 2012 Information Week 500 list of top technology innovators. To be considered for the IW500, companies with annual revenue of at least $250 million complete a rigorous application on their businesses technology strategies, which are reviewed by a panel of editors who make the rankings.

Every year, through 38 residency programs established in partnership with Michigan State University's Colleges of Human and Osteopathic Medicine, the committed clinicians at SHS help train approximately 210 residents. On February 23, 2009 Sparrow and Michigan State University signed a formal affiliation that has improved the region's health care by increasing research opportunities, attracting sub-specialist physicians and enhancing medical and nursing education. The agreement includes the commitment to develop collaborative efforts to constantly improve the quality of care in the region, achieve national benchmarks in patient care, enhance service and access, establish a joint institutional review board to streamline the review of potential research projects, and an emphasis on attracting new medical research and clinical trials to the region.
