Job Description

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is seeking a full-time faculty member to join the SIU Family Medicine Program in Carbondale, IL. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in the expansion and enhancement of a family medicine program that is vital to improving the health of the people and communities of southern Illinois.

The Department of Family & Community Medicine at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine is the foundation of training in generalist medicine and community healthcare. The Residency Program in Carbondale is one of four regionally based training programs and is recognized for its innovative training in rural medicine.

SIU Carbondale Family Medicine is proud to the first health care center in Carbondale to be certified as a Patient Centered Medical Home focusing patient care not just on acute problems but rather on the overall health of the patient and their family. The Family Medicine Residency Program is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), American Medical Association (AMA) and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The Program consists of 18 family medicine residents, graduating 6 residents per year. SIU at Carbondale also has a Sports Medicine Fellowship with 1 fellow each year. Future plans include a Family Medicine Geriatric Fellowship Program.

Highlights of the position and area include:

Enjoy working with 8 board certified family medicine physicians, 2 behavior scientists and 4 mid-level providers.

Enjoy autonomy in developing your practice interest. Specialty niche welcomed (i.e. Womens Health, OMT, Sports, Memory, Geriatrics, etc.).

Work schedule includes outpatient clinic and inpatient rounding 1:6 weeks. Inpatient only option also available.

Supervise and oversee educational programs for medical students, resident physicians, physician assistants and other undergraduate programs.

Qualifications: Must be board certified in Family Medicine. Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Illinois. Demonstrated background and interest in academics required.
