JOB TITLE: Midlevel Provider, Village Based
Position Summary: Nome is known for its finish line for the 1,049 mile Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race that is held in Alaska every year. The race begins on the first Saturday in March in Anchorage and the first sled dog team to cross the finish line in Nome wins. Nome is only accessible by plane or boat. Over the flower filled tundra you can see musk oxen and reindeer gazing off the road. While out there you might also come across bears, moose, fox, beaver, wolves, and much more. In the summer months fishing is the thing to do. Nome is also home to The Norton Sound Health Corporation (NSHC), a tribally owned and operated, independent, not-for-profit health care organization. NSHC operates the Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome and clinics in the 15 villages within the 44,000 square miles that comprise the Bering Strait region. The majority of staff in the department are community health aide practitioners local residents who have been trained at the Health Aide Training Center in Nome. These front-line primary health care providers are a critical link between doctors in Nome and patients in villages. Five villages Brevig Mission, Savoonga, Gambell, Stebbins, and White Mountain also have a full time physician assistant or nurse practitioner. Shishmaref and Unalakleet each have a dental health aide practitioner, and a larger sub-regional clinic in Unalakleet provides additional services. This facility is in need of a Midlevel Provider who will be Village Based to
Provide acute, chronic, emergency and preventive care to outlying village residents in accordance with NSHCs mission, philosophy, policies, and procedures while under the direct supervision of medical doctors in Nome.

Essential Functions:
Assess, plan and provide patient care under the supervision of a physician
Examine patient, perform comprehensive physical examinations, and compile patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination
Ensure proper illness and injury care and disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and recovery
Use the appropriate process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation when: assessing the patients condition and needs; setting outcomes; implementing appropriate actions to meet the patients/familys physical, emotional, spiritual, social, intellectual and safety needs; and evaluating patients progress
Ensure patient care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost effective manner, discharge planning is carried out, and the medical regime for each patient is implemented as prescribed by the physician
Participate in facilitating patients and familys learning by explaining the patients' disease process and planned interventions to patient/family
Demonstrate ability to care for medical, critically ill, traumatically injured, mental health, emergency, maternal/neonate, and pediatric patient populations according to policy and procedure when medically necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelors Degree in Physician Assisting or Family Nurse Practitioner Program
Can be a new graduate
Licensure, Certification, Etc.
Licensed to practice as a Midlevel in the State of Alaska; NCCPA, PALS, Medivac, ACLS and BLS certification/registration; DEA#
Working Conditions:
Work is conducted in a standard office environment and a standard clinical environment to include exposure to latex, biohazard or other harmful substances
Moderate travel is required (between 25% and 50% of the time).
Travel is required via large aircraft
Travel is required via small (less than 16 passenger) aircraft
Travel is required via snow mobiles, All Terrain Vehicles or boat
