Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Job Summary:
The Clinical Director of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/Gyn) is responsible for providing clinical leadership, fostering superior quality patient care, developing clinical strategic goals and direction, and assisting with the recruitment and retention of the OB/Gyn Physician and Advanced Practice Provider staff at Tandem Health. Delivers effective and efficient patient care during required clinical time in compliance with established clinical protocols.
Leadership Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides clinical supervision, leadership and support to all OB/Gyn Providers (Physicians, Certified Nurse Midwives and other Advanced Practice Providers, i.e. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants), as appropriate.
Establishes and reviews protocols and practice guidelines for Certified Nurse Midwives.
Reviews and makes recommendations for content in individual Practice Agreements for other Advanced Practice Providers (i.e. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants).
Assists the Practice Administrator in monitoring Provider office and on-call schedules, as well as client appointments and staffing patterns to ensure services are responsive and will ultimately provide optimal outcomes.
Participates in events in the community and at Tandem Health and Prisma Health Tuomey that impact womens health; represents Tandem Health positively to the community.
Conducts targeted education activities to increase awareness of womens health-related issues.
Works with the Practice Administrator to investigate and resolve OB/Gyn patient grievances regarding clinical quality of care.
Fosters and supports linkages with appropriate specialists, sub-specialists and related services.
Demonstrates professional interactions with internal and external customers and stakeholders.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with individuals of various cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
Participates in initiatives and concerns involving OB/Gyn patient safety, quality, infection control, risk management and patient service, especially those related to Providers.
Leads the OB/Gyn teams participation in Tandem Healths Continuous Performance Improvement (CPI) Plan and other clinical quality activities for improving the quality of patient care, including but not limited to overseeing the OB/Gyn peer review process and compliance with clinical measures.
Reports on progress of goals and other relevant data at the Tandem Health Provider/CPI/Rx P&T Quarterly Meetings.
Participates as a member of Tandem Healths Medical Privileging Review Committee.
Works with Human Resources, Practice Administrator and Medical Director in the recruitment, selection, and retention of highly qualified and skilled OB/Gyn Physitcians, Certified Nurse Midwives and other Advanced Practice Providers.
Co-manages with the Practice Administrator the OB/Gyn Providers on-boarding and orientation.
Works cooperatively with Nursing Managers to effectively evaluate and determine training needs for clinical support staff.
Makes recommendations for continuing education opportunities and requests for OB/Gyn Providers.
In conjunction with the Practice Administrator, provides coaching and performance feedback to OB/Gyn Providers utilizing Tandem Health-approved performance feedback tools and methods.
Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides direct, clinically competent, obstetrical and gynecological (OB/Gyn) medical care in an ambulatory setting and in-patient hospital setting that includes examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatment, follow-up, consultations, and health education for women within scope of expertise and in accordance with the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG).
Prescribes and/or administers recommended therapies, medications and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury, to include referring clients to specialists and/or other medical providers, as necessary/appropriate.
Monitors the condition and progress of all Ob/Gyn clients and re-evaluates treatment plans as necessary and appropriate.
Educates patients and their caregivers regarding health and illness prevention.
Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
Instructs patients and caregivers regarding medications and treatment instructions.
Adheres to established clinical protocols and procedures.
Supervises or participates in patient emergencies as required.
Participates in physician hospital call coverage, including participation in the hospitals service call schedule, to ensure service delivery to clients 24 hours per day/7 days per week.
Performs all functions and responsibilities based upon Tandem Healths policies and procedures; guidelines of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ACOG) guidelines; and the applicable policies and procedures of Prisma Health Tuomey.
Maintains complete medical records in the established chart.
Observes all infection control procedures.
Fulfills health center productivity standards.
Follows established health center procedures for patient billing and reimbursement.
Observes all infection control procedures.
Participates in quality assurance and other committee activities as assigned.
Reports any discrepancies, irregularities, and/or violations involving clinical care, administrative procedure, billing issues or other protocols to the appropriate personnel.
Maintains professional competence by completing appropriate specialty requirements of CME.
Maintains current certifications.
Attends required meetings and participates in committees as assigned.
Maintains strictest confidentiality.
Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
Successfully completes Tandem Health and Prisma Health credentialing and privileging upon hire, and re-privileging, as required.
Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Qualifications:
Graduate of a medical school at a four (4) year accredited institution; receipt of a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree
Successful completion of a residency training program in obstetrics/gynecology
M.D./D.O. licensure in the state of South Carolina
Three (3) or more years of work experience beyond residency in an obstetric/gynecologic setting
ACOG Board certification
Demonstrated leadership experience
Current DEA number.
Current CPR certification required
Eligible to participate with Medicare and Medicaid agencies and other 3rd party insurers, including Medicaid Managed Care organizations
Ability to work as a team player at all times with a variety of people at different developmental and educational levels
Possess ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently
Flexible as to the changing needs of Tandem Health
