Job Description

The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is currently seeking board certified or board eligible Pediatric Emergency Medicine physicians.

Clinical responsibilities include direct patient care as well as teaching and supervising residents and medical students in the Pediatric Emergency Department (PED), a specialized 10-bed section of the general ED at UNC Hospitals. The UNC ED is a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center that treats about 70,000 patients annually, nearly 14,000 of which are children and adolescents under the age of 19. In January 2017, the PED will expand its hours of operation from 18 to 24 hours per day.

NC Childrens Hospital serves as a southeast regional referral center for children and adolescents with both routine and complex medical and surgical conditions. About one-third of all patients admitted to NC Childrens Hospital enter through emergency department. Expert clinicians representing the full complement of pediatric and pediatric surgical subspecialties are available 24/7 for consultation.The Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine is a growing division in the Department of Pediatrics. Our Department and Division take pride in offering multiple opportunities for faculty development and in fostering strong mentoring relationships throughout the University and Medical Center. All division faculty members are expected to perform scholarly work to enhance the academic mission of the division. Experienced PEM physicians, as well as soon to graduate PEM fellows are encouraged to apply. Ideal candidates will have previous experience working in an academic environment. Demonstrated expertise in quality and process improvement and/or clinical guideline development is a plus. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
