DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The Physician Assistant (Physician Extender) is a member of the Medical Team and is responsible for ensuring optimum patient care and management of patients under the supervision the Medical Services Director at R.J. Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center (ADATC). Job responsibilities include the following:

*Performs history and physicals of patients on admission;
*Orders lab work and appropriate testing (i.e., EKG, X-ray, etc.);
*Prescribes medication;
*Attends daily rounds;
*Completion of medical records documentation;
*Participation in treatment team and care planning of patients in inpatient setting

Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; shared on-call as scheduled.

R.J. Blackley Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center (RJB) in Butner, NC. RJB is one of three inpatient centers for treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders in conjunction with other mental and medical illnesses. RJB is accredited by the Joint Commission and Certified by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) as an inpatient psychiatric hospital.

Our location is ideal with four seasons, mild temperatures, and provides an easy drive to the N.C. mountains or beaches. Butner possesses small town charm but is within 30 minutes of a major metropolitan area including Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham, NC.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

Qualified candidates must document on the application that they possess all of the following:

Proven ability to perform bio/psycho/social medical assessments, evaluations and medication management for adults, preferably in an inpatient setting.
Proven ability to provide sound clinical judgment.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and their families, clinical and non-clinical staff, etc.
Proven ability to compile clear and concise notes for patient's charts and maintain appropriate clinical documentation.
Proven ability to assess and interpret laboratory results, clinical data and information relative to the patient's condition.
Demonstrated excellent communication skills that demonstrate ability to respond to patients in a prompt, respectful, caring and compassionate manner.
License to practice must be current and unrestricted.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to pass and maintain NCVI certification and CPR certification.

Management prefers inpatient experience with Joint Commission and CMS and experience with psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed as a Physician Assistant by the North Carolina Medical Board or approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner by the North Carolina Board of Nursing and the North Carolina Medical Board.
