Cherry Hospital is an accredited state psychiatric hospital that serves Eastern North Carolina. We are currently seeking permanent full-time Registered Nurses for all 4 service areas. Adult Acute Admissions Units (AAU), Independent Transition Units (ITU), Geriatric Admissions Units (GAU), and our Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU). Our AAU units consist of three adult patient care units, two male, one female and 1 adolescent unit. Patients are admitted to one of these units from any of the 38 counties Cherry Hospital serves. The goal of the AAU and Adolescence is psychiatric crisis stabilization and return to the community.
Our ITU consists of four adult patient care units, three male and one female. Patients transition from the Admissions Units to the ITU with goals to achieve a life beyond inpatient hospitalization and transition back into the community.
Our GAU, is a 24-bed specialty unit dedicated to treating elderly and medically fragile patients requiring hospital level psychiatric assessment and care.
Our MPU, is an 18-bed specialty unit which offers highly specialized inpatient care for patients with dual medical and psychiatric diagnoses and is dedicated to treating patients who cannot be admitted to a general psychiatric unit because of complex medical needs such as telemetry, intravenous fluids, or oxygen supplementation.
On all of our units, our Registered Nurses work with an interdisciplinary team of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Social Workers, Rehabilitation Staff and Health Care Technicians to plan, development and implement individualized treatment plans to assist patients in meeting their goals. The Registered Nurse is also responsible for medication administration, assessment, ensuring the safety of our patients, therapeutic engagement and many more rewarding opportunities. These positions supervise Licensed Practical Nurses as well as Health Care Technicians to ensure safe and quality care delivery. The primary focus of this position includes, but is not limited to providing active programming and ensuring safety of our patients, which is driven by individual patients' treatment plans.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Prefer experience or strong interest in psychiatric or substance abuse nursing.
Ability to effectively communicate with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team
Ability to utilize critical decision-making skills in crisis situations
Ability to comprehend and follow hospital policies and procedures
Ability to utilize the nursing process throughout the patients' hospitalization
Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays
Ability to utilize proper ergonomics during patient care
As a condition for continued employment, must pass all required parts of CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute).
As an essential function of this position, the shift/unit assigned is primary but you may be required to work all shifts, weekends, holidays, during inclement weather and overtime and be assigned to another shift/unit/service area based on the hospital needs.
Management prefers for MPU: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
