Job Summary:

Responsible for the delivery of direct clinical services, evaluation for and prescribing of psychotropic medication, on-call/disaster responsibility and treatment of admitted patients.


Summary of essential job functions:

Performs psychiatric evaluation to assess neuro-psychology and emotional/personality functioning of patients and residents
Communicates results of assessments and recommendations in a clear and understandable manner to patient (or family when indicated) and the treatment team
Interprets and reports Psychiatric and neuropsychological findings
Develops and documents appropriate treatment goals and interventions and prescribes psychotropic medication as indicated
Monitors effectiveness of medication and side effects and determines if/when modifications are needed
Facilitates the admission of patients to hospitals when clinically indicated
Consults with interdisciplinary team members concerning patients psychological issues and interventions, and when appropriate, provides consultation and services to patients families
Participates in department meetings, conferences and in-services as needed
Writes assessment reports and summaries of treatment progress according to departmental; and service guidelines
Ensures that all records, forms and billing vouchers are completed in a timely manner, and maintains all records in accord with established procedures and guidelines
Serves as a backup for Therapists as needed, including telephone consultation to therapists and on-site evaluations of patients presenting for admission to hospital when on call



Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Graduate of an accredited Medical or Osteopathic School
Experience:
Minimum three years post residency supervised experience
Must have experience working with dementia patients, with extensive time in long term care environment

Licenses/Certifications:
Valid State of Florida License as a Psychiatrist required
Board Certification in Psychiatry is required with added qualification in
Geriatric psychiatry preferred

Abilities required:
Psychological and neuropsychological assessment skill
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Good Computer skills
