DESCRIPTION OF WORK:

Salary Grade: MG17

This position serves as the director of the Medical Services Department and has 24/7 responsibility for oversight of all aspects of medical care for all residents at the center. The position directly supervises three Primary Care Physicians, Pharmacy Director, Dental Hygienist, Clinical Dieticians and an Administrative Assistant. Coordination of contract positions include the Dentist, Podiatrist and ECU School of Medicine (SOM) Geriatric Psychiatrist. The Medical Director supervises the implementation of care, chairs the Admissions Committee, participates in resident care planning, Quality Improvement projects, DSOHF (NC Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities) initiatives and other duties as assigned by the Center Director. The position has clinical supervision responsibilities with the Infection Control Nurse and the Employee Health Clinic, and serves as a consultant to all other clinical departments in the center. When physicians are on leave, the Medical Director assists with the provision of primary care to patients on the units.

Longleaf Neuro Medical Treatment Center (LNMTC) is a certified Medicare and Medicaid facility nursing home that provides a continuum of care to both adults with severe and persistent mental illness that also have long-term medical conditions requiring residential, medical and nursing care, and to adults with a diagnosis of Alzheimer's or other related dementia. LNMTC facilitates high quality skilled and intermediate nursing care throughout four Nursing Unit Floors and an Alzheimer's Unit that operates 24 hours seven days a week, with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:

Thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of general, preventive and applicable specialty medicine and of the techniques involved.
Thorough knowledge of developments in the field of medicine.
Considerable knowledge of state, organizational and medical rules and regulations.
Thorough knowledge of biological, social and psychological development process of patients served.
General knowledge of planning, budgeting and policy making processes.
Skill in leadership, teaching and management techniques.
Ability to lead interdisciplinary teams in developing and managing patient quality care practices.
Ability to represent the needs of clinical care services to decision makers who provide resources.

Management Preferences: Preference given to individuals with hospital or long term care experience.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 40 lbs, stand for long periods of time, extensive walking, able to stand climb, stoop, kneel and crouch.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina and three years of experience including two years in health services delivery management.

*As a condition for continued employment: Must successfully pass all required parts of CPI's (Crisis Prevention Institute) Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
