Job Description
Christiana Care Health System is looking for an experience Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to work on 2A the Surgical/Shock Trauma Unit at Christiana Hospital Campus. This position is primary Monday through Friday from 7a to 3:30p.
Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) practices within the CCHS professional practice model and exhibits CCHS Values and Behaviors, which reflect its mission. Based on a specialized knowledge base, the CNS designs, implements and evaluates standards of practice that improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive care to individuals, families and population.
The CNS is a clinical leadership position that includes the traditional components of patient care, consultation, research utilization, leadership and education with the aims of developing practice standards, contributing to the professional development of others and shaping/influencing nursing practice within and outside of the organization. Responsibilities of a CNS include delivering comprehensive patient care, serving as a role model to other staff, mentoring and supervising less-experienced staff, identifying and researching problems, applying research findings to improve the nursing care of patients, consulting complicated nursing problems, evaluating overall patient care, developing tools to improve the quality of patient care and initiating change as needed.
The clinical judgment and decision-making skill of the CNS are characterized by a systematic, process-oriented approach to clinical situations. This is supported by identifiable, theoretical, scientific and experiential knowledge. This knowledge is utilized to develop and refine new practice standards in support of patient and organizational initiatives.
The CNS maintains current knowledge of the literature regarding patient-family relationships in order to educate and promote the professional development of other health care colleagues. In this manner the CNS develops and models clinical, spiritual and culturally appropriate care of the populations served. The CNS demonstrates additional leadership characteristics in providing mentorship to others in the healthcare community.
The CNS practices with a spirit of clinical inquiry and actively engages in leading evidence-based practice. The CNS will accomplish this through the recognition of problems resolvable by a change in practice, utilization of appropriate statistical tools for analysis of the issue, and development/revision of evidence based practice protocols and guidelines to improve patient outcomes. The CNS will also contribute to the knowledge base of the health care community via presentations, publication and involvement in professional organizations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduation from Masters level clinical nurse specialist program.
At least three years of related clinical nursing experience
Licensure or license eligible for Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nursing as set forth by the Delaware Board of Nursing with prescriptive (Rx) authority
BLS & ACLS required
ICU experience required
Trauma experience preferred, but not required.
