Job Description
The NC Dept of Health & Human Services is currently recruiting for a Psychiatrist on the Adult Admissions Unit (AAU) at Central Regional Hospital (CRH) in Butner, NC. The Psychiatrist, under the direction of the Unit Clinical Director for AAU and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for CRH, provides direct patient care to an assigned patient caseload. Job responsibilities include the following:
Evaluating patients for hospital admission and developing the preliminary treatment plan;
Completing initial and annual psychiatric assessments (including medical and psychiatric history, history of medications, review of systems, evaluation of mental, emotional, behavioral, and social status);
Completing physical examinations as indicated by clinical condition or by hospital policy;
Treating of medical and psychiatric problems including use of pharmacotherapy, psychotherapy, and other treatment modalities;
Functioning as leader of treatment team, conducting treatment team meetings, and leading the development of comprehensive interdisciplinary treatment plans;
Coordinating and integrating overall care of patients;
Interpreting and integrating reports by other professionals;
Ordering appropriate tests and consults (e.g., labs, x-rays, psychological testing, speech and language evaluations, occupational therapy evaluations, etc.);
Documenting patient care rendered and the patient's progress toward achievement of identified goals according to hospital standards; coordinating and supervising discharge plans; developing discharge summaries; and providing on-call services as required.
Adult Admissions Unit (AAU):
AAU is a 150 beds unit and provides services for adults, ages 18 to 64, who require short-term and intermediate stays to help them stabilize for return to the community. The program utilizes a biopsychosocial approach to guide patient assessment and treatment.
CRH has a major teaching mission. It is a training site for psychiatry residents and medical students for both the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University.
These are full-time positions and eligible for the full state benefits package including health insurance, paid holidays, sick and vacation leave, and retirement, etc.. The normal working hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; however, flexibility is required to meet patient needs.
Salary Grade: MG15

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES / COMPETENCIES:
Graduation from an accredited medical school and completion of psychiatry residency (or anticipated completion before job commencement).
Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to adult patients, as credentialed by the Medical Staff.
Considerable knowledge of inpatient psychiatry; knowledge of the theories and general practices of medicine; thorough knowledge of biological, social, and psychological developmental processes at all ages; a sound identity with and training in medicine and psychiatry; and demonstrated clinical abilities.
Ability to work on an interdisciplinary team and integrate care is essential.
Excellent oral and written communication skills (including legibility) are essential.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate or learn proficiency with electronic medical record.
Management prefers: Board certification in Psychiatry
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Licensed to practice medicine in the State of North Carolina.
