We are currently searching for a Physician to provide support to the Infectious Diseases Consult Service within the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Serve as Chief and an Attending Physician on the Infectious Diseases Consult Service.
Provide direct clinical care to patients in the NIH and the outpatient clinic(s).
Work effectively with clinical fellows, and other clinicians within the department and other institutes in the care of patients at the NIH.
Independently assess acute and non-acute clinical and research related problems and toxicities.
Lead patient care rounds and conferences, as needed.
Communicate and collaborate with the multidisciplinary clinical and research teams to ensure that patient management strategies are successful in meeting patient care and research needs.
Review patient care policies and procedures utilizing NIH guidelines as it relates to patient care.
Observe and ensure the safety of human subjects while procedures are being performed.
Contribute to developing educational materials and educate the clinical fellows and other clinicians and research professionals regarding clinical management, clinical studies and related research issues.
Use advanced communication skills to problem solve complex or unpredictable situations and to improve processes and services to patients and colleagues.
Supervise, mentor and train new or junior clinical fellows and other staff.
Conduct educational presentations to clinical fellows, nursing units, clinics and other departments collaborating on NIH clinical trials.
Work collaboratively with the program director to accomplish the missions of recruitment and education of clinical fellows.
Contribute to the design, methodology, implementation, and regulatory review of specific protocols as assigned.
Monitor and document clinical and research-related developments and response to therapy and communicate findings to principle investigators with recommendations for appropriate intervention.
Assure that all procedures are being carried out per protocol
Position Requirements:
An M.D./D.O./M.B.B.S. is required as well as the ability to be credentialed at the NIH Clinical Center, with associated licensure to practice within the state of Maryland.
Board certification in Infectious Diseases by the ABIM or ABP certification is preferred.
Provide the team with a detail-oriented approach to all tasks and responsibilities outlined
Able to work independently and efficiently to track multiple deadlines and keep missions of clinical care and education on target and moving forward.
Understand Good Clinical Practices and federal human subjects research regulatory requirements and ensure compliance of research protocols with relevant requirements.
