Job Description
Texas Tech Health University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSCEP) seeks a physical medicine and rehabilitation physician with additional fellowship training in spinal cord injury.
The preferred candidate should have a demonstrated interest in developing an academic career in physiatry. The candidate should enjoy teaching residents and medical students as well as pursuing research and other scholarly activities within the Surgery Department.
TTUHSCEP is one of four independent universities in the Texas Tech University System. The Health Sciences Center consists of the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine, the Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences and an emerging Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine.
University Medical Center of El Paso (UMCEP) is the primary teaching hospital for TTUHSCEP. As the only American College of Surgeons Level I trauma center for a 270-mile radius. The trauma center admits more than 3,000 injured patients each year from a catchment area of 1.3M individuals in far west Texas and southern New Mexico. UMCEP is also an accredited chest pain center by the American College of Cardiology and is home to the regions only Joint Commission certified comprehensive stroke center.
El Paso is the 6th most populous city in Texas and the 21st in the United States. The Franklin Mountains are the signature of Texas only mountain city. At 24,000 acres, El Pasos Franklin Mountains State Park is the largest urban park in the country. Its a unique resource an outpost of the wild Chihuahuan Desert, in the midst of a major city. In 2018, El Paso was ranked as the city with the lowest cost of living by Forbes magazine and the second safest city in the U.S. Exceptional public and private schools are available. The city has minor league baseball and soccer, symphony, museums, excellent dining options and shopping. The El Paso International Airport is easy to access, making travel simple and efficient. One can enjoy living in the mountains and skiing is just two hours away. El Paso was honored as a 2018 All-America City by the National Civic League.
The successful candidate will be employed by TTUHSCEP at an academic rank commensurate with qualifications. The position requires a MD/DO degree and successful completion of ACGME approved in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Board certification or board eligible by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is required. Qualified applicants must have or be eligible for an unrestricted Texas license.
