Job Description
*currently hiring for nights
This position will provide continuous observation and surveillance of assigned patients and alert floor staff of any behaviors requiring intervention.
(50%)* Maintains visual observation of patient(s) at all times.
Verbally redirects patient(s) from engaging in any at risk behaviors.
If this is not successful, incumbents will summon floor staff to assist.
Provides floor staff with information in a timely fashion regarding patient safety issues, particularly when patient appears to pose a threat to themselves or others.
Participates in the collaborative identification and reporting of patient safety issues in accordance with policies and procedures.
Collaborates with co-workers to create a safe environment for patients.
Seeks assistance with removal of any potential safety hazard from room and reports findings to appropriate staff members.
(30%)* Answers patient questions within scope of practice and directs other questions to appropriate floor staff.
(20%)* Participates in shift report with on-coming staff. Reviews pertinent patient information and behaviors.

Maintains patient dignity and privacy.
Provides excellent customer service: Demonstrates professionalism and courtesy at all times.
Supports the mission, goals, policies and standards of nursing.
Medical Center and unit policies and work rules are recognized, supported and implemented.
Provides for the age specific needs of the population served according to department standards and policies/procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND SKILLS:

* High School Diploma or GED
Credentials:
Essential:
* Basic Life Support
* CNA/EMT/LPN Certification
* BLS certification is required within 90 days of hire or transfer date.
* Must hold a current State of Michigan registry document as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification culminating in licensure in the state of Michigan or completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse program culminating in licensure in the State of Michigan. Effective 11/22/2019, we can also accept a Medical Assistant with the following: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologist (AMT), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR equivalent Medical Assistant Credential such as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant CCMA, etc.
Knowledge of reading, writing, math, and computer skills.
Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to communicate ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to stressful situations, including those involving public contact, as well as, trauma, grief and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment that includes latex materials or appropriate substitute if required for your position.
Is able to move freely about facility with or without an assisted device and must be able to perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing is necessary with or without assisted device(s).
Frequently required to sit/stand/walk for long periods of time.
May require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling or crouching.
Some exposure to blood borne pathogens and other potentially infectious material.
Must follow MidMichigan Health bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to handle multiple tasks, get along with others, work independently, regular and predictable attendance and ability to stay awake.
Overall dexterity is required including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering and feeling.May require repetition of these movements on a regular to frequent basis.
Physical Demand Level: Sedentary.
Must be able to occasionally (0-33% of the workday) lift or carry 0-10 lbs.
