The primary purpose is to provide a variety of nursing care practices, procedures, and treatments to the care of emergency room/urgent care patients. Providing a full range of assessments of needs planning for care and performance of routing and emergency procedures for patients of all ages.

Responsibilities
Assess, planning, implementing and evaluating the care of patient care needs on the unit and adjusts personnel assignments appropriately, after consulting with the Emergency Room/Urgent Care Department Charge Nurse or Supervisor; assess the delivery of nursing care in the Emergency Room/Urgent Care Department and identifies problems and opportunities for improvement.
Initiates treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on appropriate utilization of standing orders and Emergency Room/Urgent Care Department protocols; operates specialized equipment.
Administers therapeutic and emergency measures as prescribed by the physician or mid-level provider, such as medications, treatments, procedures, and intravenous fluids, while adhering to current scientific knowledge, principles of safety and infection control.
Assists in the review and revision of nursing policies and procedures, as directed by the Emergency Room/Urgent Care Supervisor.
Consults with providers and other health care professionals to coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic regimens for patients; implements nursing interventions based in accordance with patient care standards.
Maintain certifications in Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):

Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.

Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

GS-9: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Assess and care for the nursing needs of ER patients and other types of patients as assigned; develop plans of care to meet the needs of assigned patients; recognize adverse signs and symptoms and reacting swiftly in emergency situations; basic knowledge of triaging patients; plan with minimal assistance in scheduling and providing comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.

GS-10: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree or master's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of Professional Nursing Experience to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing nursing care, triage patients, recognize and intervene in acute life-threatening situations, cardiac and respiratory failure management in medical, surgical, and obstetrical patients in the emergency room; interpret data about the patient's status in order to identify the patient care needed; independently plan, schedule and provide comprehensive nursing care in the Emergency Department.
