JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Medical Director and direct supervision of the Manager of the Cardiopulmonary Services Department, the Respiratory Therapist II must be proficient or able to perform all functions and procedures, if authorized and competent, as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manuals of the Department of Cardiopulmonary Services. They must have excellent critical thinking and patient assessment skills and the ability to use physician ordered protocols and respiratory treatments and procedures for improving the quality of patient care and affecting favorable patient outcomes. They evaluate and treat patients ranging in age from premature infants to the elderly. They are responsible for the evaluation of a patients breathing capacity and assessment of oxygen levels and determining the clinical status and underlying factors that may be contributing to the patients state of health. They may examine the patient, interview a patients family, interact with other members of the healthcare team, evaluate health records and/or relay information to the treating/referring physician. They will work with the physician and other staff to develop and implement the plan of care. They regularly assess equipment, observe and evaluate use of a bronchodilator delivery device or measure the patients response to therapy. They interact with and teach patients and their families how to properly use a device, deliver treatment, and provide education. They will respond to and provide intervention such as intubation, CPR, and ventilation management. They perform cleaning, processing, and assembly of department equipment, evaluate new equipment, assist in new employee orientation / supervise, maintenance of department records, writing, review and / or suggest improvements for department policies and procedures, general department cleaning and restocking of Respiratory Therapy supplies, and other related tasks assigned by the department manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license from the Respiratory Care Board of California and certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care as a Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) RRT).
2. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Certification required within three (3) years of hire for all new RCP employees.
3. Minimum of 3 years acute care experience within the past 5 years.
4. BLS Certification required and maintained thereafter.
5. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required and maintained.
6. PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required and maintained.
7. NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required and maintained.
8. Successful completion of RRH respiratory therapy intubation training and annual competency.
9. Ability to read, write, understand and communicate effectively in the English language.
10. Must be able to put into practice Service Excellence skills with our patients, families and co-workers.
