Job Description

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) is currently seeking a Trauma Surgeon for Forbes Hospital. Forbes is located in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, 20 minutes east of downtown Pittsburgh. Forbes Hospital started its now accredited, Level II Trauma Program on January 1, 2013 and has been the leading care provider in Pittsburgh’s eastern suburbs for over 30 years. Over that time, they have grown their services to meet their patients’ and community’s needs. A 350-bed facility with 15,000 inpatient admissions, 12,000 surgeries, and nearly 50,000 emergency department visits annually, they bring an advanced level of care to their patients. Position Overview In addition to the trauma team there are four General Surgery Residents and six Advanced Practitioners who assist the department. The current schedule is as follows: Two surgeons on staff during the day shift, 7 AM-7 PM. The first surgeon is operating, while the second is covering the Surgical Critical Care Unit. During holidays, weekends and night shifts there is one surgeon with a second surgeon at home on backup call. All surgeons are required to cover at least five in house night shifts per month as well as cover night back up call six times per month. The Trauma Service support staff includes 6 advanced practitioners. One is present 24/7 and two during Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday daytime. Forbes is a teaching hospital and has general surgery residents present at all times. There are two residents and one intern present during all the day shifts and one resident is in the hospital for all the night shifts. The residents respond to trauma activations unless they are in the operating room. The trauma surgeons provide care for their own patients in the Surgical ICU. The current average census of trauma patients in the ICU is six patients. The qualified candidate must be a critical care board surgeon. New graduates of the critical care fellowship with excellent interpersonal communication skills, experience delivering healthcare via teamwork and collaboration and a professional goal to practice for at least five years will also be considered. The ability to obtain and maintain a Pennsylvania Medical License and privileges with AHN are required.
