Job Summary We believe mental & emotional health is an important part of overall health and wellness. Our behavioral health providers work closely with patients and their Primary Care Providers to help them meet their health care goals. As a Child & Family Counselor, you would provide outpatient, comprehensive Behavioral Health (BH) counseling and social services to children and families based at our clinics & at a local school. This would include the following: Diagnosing patients: Assessing patients referred to UCNW Child and Family Department to determine the patient’s mental health diagnosis utilizing DSM 5 Diagnostic criteria Treating patients: Assessing patients for disorders found within the DSM 5 as referred by the Primary Care Providers, Primary Care BH & Specialty BH therapists, Psychiatric team, and Case Managers Coordinating treatment plans related to management of behavioral health disorders with other treatment providers Directing patients to appropriate additional services, including psychiatry and case management Communicating and coordinating the transfer or cessation of care with other internal stakeholders Working within the clinic and in designated school environments (If applicable) Providing consultation and education to patients and necessary stakeholders: Providing consultation and input related to the ongoing care to other internal providers, external providers, parents & care givers, teachers, and other necessary stakeholders What We Offer Full-time employment without the overhead work and costs of running a private practice Fully implemented EMR system (AthenaPractice formerly Centricty) with one-on-one training provided Outpatient work only - no call Competitive compensation package Malpractice insurance with tail coverage Continuing Education benefit & reimbursement of state license fees Generous paid time off Medical, dental, & vision insurance 401(k) retirement plan with employer match after 1 year Life insurance Alternative transportation incentive Wellness reimbursement benefit Ability to apply for loan repayment via the National Health Service Corps (NHSC)-for information see http://nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/ Ability to apply for loan repayment via the Washington Student Achievement Council-for information see http://www.wsac.wa.gov/health-professionals) Requirements Independent license as a Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, Marriage & Family Therapist or Psychologist in Washington State (or be eligible to obtain an independent license in Washington) Mental Health Professional (MHP) acknowledgment or have the qualifications to be acknowledged as an MHP by the WA State Department of Health (details can be viewed at https://www.doh.wa.gov/Portals/1/Documents/Pubs/611014.pdf) 2 years’ direct clinical experience, preferably in community health or community mental health Ability to split workdays between our Behavioral Health Clinic in Bellingham, our North Whatcom Health Center Clinic in Ferndale &/or onsite at a local school Preferred Qualifications Experience with Medicaid patients and related insurance knowledge Demonstrated success in working with and relating to individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds & socio-economic levels, treating them with sensitivity & respect Experience working in schools where building relationships & care coordination is essential with students, their families, teachers, school counselors, the school psychologist and the principal Ability to be flexible & accommodative when working at different locations & with various stakeholders, such as scheduling meetings before or after school for parents who work or after school when teachers are available Skills in support group organization & facilitation Candidates who meet the requirements & have applicable experience or similar qualifications are encouraged to apply!
