The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for providing resident care and support in all activities of daily living and ensures the health, welfare and safety of all residents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide assistance with serving meals and feeding; providing fresh water and nourishment between meals.
  • Provide assistance in personal hygiene by giving bedpans, urinals, baths, backrubs, shampoos, and shaves; assisting with travel to the bathroom; helping with showers and baths.
  • Provide assistance in ambulating, turning, and positioning residents.
  • Maintain resident stability by checking vital signs and weight; recording intake and output information.
  • Provide for resident comfort by utilizing resources and materials; answering call lights and requests; reporting observations of the residents to the nursing supervisor.
  • Document actions by completing forms, reports, logs, and records.
  • Protect privacy and dignity by keeping patient information confidential; comply with HIPAA guidelines and related laws.
  • Adhere to professional standards, company policies and procedures, and all federal, state, and local requirements, including JCAHO standards, when applicable.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; and maintaining licensure.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in accordance with the laws of the state of practice.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Long term care experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Required to sit, stand, bend and walk regularly; lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

We are a growing company and have multiple roles open for skilled HHA's & CNA's. You will provide outstanding patient care and physical support for our clients daily. Because of the personal nature of the job, you must have excellent people skills, be compassionate and enjoy helping others.

CNA Aptitudes

  • Care – As a healthcare professional, your ultimate goal is to provide impeccable care to your clients to the full extent of your training regardless of condition or setting. Listening to your client's needs plays an enormous factor in this category. When you take the time to listen to clients, you can better understand and address their needs and concerns.
  • Compassion Compassion is defined as the feelings you have toward a person, who is suffering or grieving in some way. While you may not completely grasp all the details of their condition it doesn't matter; just do your best!

CNA Duties

Your work will involve helping clients in their homes get through their daily activities

  • Personal Hygiene – This includes bathing and washing clients as well as helping them to shower. An important part of client hygiene is to assist in grooming, such as brushing the client's hair and trimming their nails if needed. Many clients also need help getting dressed daily.
  • Infection Control – Proper protocol in controlling the spread of germs. Washing your hands frequently and disposing of soiled linens and other materials in the proper manner also plays an active role in controlling infection.
  • Dietary Care – Adequate nutrition for your client is your responsibility as an HHA/CNA. You will provide them with a nutritious meal or snack depending on the time of day that you are with them. Some clients can eat on their own, while others will require direct feeding.
  • Reporting – As an HHA/CNA, you will have direct contact with clients daily. This allows you to be on the frontline as a key member of the client's healthcare team. In this capacity, your observations will play an important role in their healthcare plan.
  • Emotional Support – In addition to physical care, the emotional needs of the clients must be taken into consideration. Your daily routine with clients will mean that as an HHA/CNA, you typically spend the most time with them. This will allow you to better understand their daily moods, fears and concerns. Additionally, just taking the time to listen and counsel the client can help to relieve some of their concerns and daily stressors.

CNA Responsibilities:

  • Providing great client care.
  • Providing physical support for clients or residents with daily activities and personal hygiene, including bathing, dressing, getting out of bed, - using the toilet, walking, standing or exercising.
  • Turning and repositioning bedridden clients.
  • Ensuring clients receive appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences.
  • Examining clients to detect issues requiring medical care, including open wounds, bruises or blood in urine.

Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision of the Director or Manager, and close direction of a registered nurse, administers patient care and related activities, services and/or procedures to promote the physical and emotional health and personal comfort needs for assigned patients.

StarTech Certified Nurse Assistant Program (CNA) - FT Days and Nights Available

The Star Tech program is a unique educational opportunity designed for licensed CNA's to meet the crucial needs of our patients and hospitals. When hired as a CNA/PCT, you will be able to go through a paid, 4-week orientation program that combines classroom interactive lectures, skills training, electronic health record training, skills practice and hands-on clinical training done at one of our HCA facilities. We work 12 hour shifts; 7:00pm – 7:00am, or rotating shifts (D/N) with rotating weekends.

You must be 18 years of age or older. Show proof of a High School diploma or GED. Have a current Virginia nurse aide license.

For more than 90 years, Westerly Hospital has been providing residents of southern Rhode Island and southeastern Connecticut with a full range of inpatient and outpatient services in a community hospital setting.

Westerly Hospital, which was acquired by L+M Healthcare in 2013, is now part of Yale New Haven Health, a system that includes Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, Bridgeport Hospital, Greenwich Hospital, Yale New Haven Hospital, the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut and Northeast Medical Group.
