Bay Pines VA Healthcare System is a tertiary care facility with nine outpatient clinics located throughout West Central Florida. Resource Float Pool:
Bay Pines VA Healthcare has an opening for a registered nurse for the Resource Float Pool. This position is full time and will work primarily on the off tours. The incumbent will be assigned to work throughout the medical center based on hospital needs and individual expertise and competencies. Assignment will be made by the Nursing supervisor using the following categories: ICU-Acute Care, Acute Care, GEC, and Mental Health. Two years previous hospital experience required. Acute care is strongly preferred. This position is for evenings or nights.
The Clinical Nurse Educator:
The Clinical Nurse Educator is a registered professional nurse who provides formal/informal/virtual instruction for clinicians, support staff, and patients. The Clinical Nurse Educator works under the direction of the Chief Nurse for Nursing Education. They collaborate with multiple disciplines in assessing, planning, organizing, implementing and evaluation of an effective program including orientation, continuing education and in-service for staff at C.W. Bill Young Medical Center. This position is day tour and is available to current agency staff only.
Primary Care/Doctor’s Office:
The RN will function as a primary nurse in support of the PACT Team (Patient, Primary Care Provider, LPN and MSA). He/she may float on occasion within the various primary care clinics and on rare occasion the Saint Petersburg or Palm Harbor CBOCs. Duties will include but are not limited to consultation with physicians, referrals to other clinical specialist as needed, admissions, telephone triage, physical assessment, maintain and support the flow of patients throughout the clinic, oversight of nursing staff, documentation, diabetic checks, point of care testing including, pregnancy testing, finger stick glucometer, and EKGs, vital signs, health screening including ETOH, depression and PTSD.
The RN will be responsible for educating the patients on disease processes and treatment plans in both the individual and group setting. The RN activities must reflect the highest standards that are consistent with the mission, values, priorities, goals and resources of BPVAHCS. The Registered Nurse must demonstrate competency in the assessment of urgent care patients including acute coronary syndrome and stroke. The RN will perform other duties under the direction of the nurse manager or designee as assigned. This position will require standing and walking for extended periods of time as well as hearing and vision corrected to the near normal range. This is a day tour position with occasional Weekend coverage.
Acute Psychiatry Staff RN
The Staff Nurse provides direct and indirect nursing care to residents and families in the acute psychiatric unit. He/she is accountable for adhering to established policies, standards of care and standards of practice. The staff nurse demonstrates leadership when providing and improving resident care. The incumbent reports directly to the Nurse Manager of the ward. The staff nurse serves as a role model when functioning as team leader or charge nurse under the supervision of the Nurse Manager or designee. This is an evening shift/night shift position.
All applicants must have previous inpatient psychiatric experience and should be knowledgeable in the assessment of common psychiatric and addictive disorders including management of behavioral emergencies. Routine admissions may be voluntary or in-voluntary and cover a wide range of psychiatric illnesses. Applicants must have the ability to recognize physiological and psychological behavioral symptoms. Applicants must be able to implement daily multidisciplinary treatment plans. The successful candidate will have previous experience in implementing emergency psychiatric crisis intervention. The applicant must be able to demonstrate knowledge of the therapeutic implications for patients on psychotropic medications. They must have excellent patient assessment skills, triage and knowledge of co-morbidity. They must have the ability to collaborate with all member of the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient restriction and interventions to address related health problems. Acute Care Telemetry-PCU Staff RN:
Bay Pines is seeking responsible RNs for providing and coordinating the direct and indirect total nursing care for a cardiac telemetry or progressive care population. He/she should be prepared to use the nursing process to assess, diagnose, manage, implement and evaluate nursing actions. Serious candidates should have experience in cardiac care and pharmacology. Additional experience in post invasive procedures and pacemaker/AICD care would be beneficial. Registered Nurses within this unit are required to participate on the Code Blue Team and must have ACLS.
The responsibilities will include but are not limited to IV therapy, medication administration, nursing diagnosis, rhythm interpretation and management, treatment plans, point of care testing, team leading, as well as patient and family education. The RN will occupy a leadership role with oversight of UAPs and LPNs. The incumbent will be required to participate in interdisciplinary meeting and committees. The RN should be able to use their advanced critical thinking skills and experience to address the evolving complexities in cardiac nursing and be prepared to assume the role care giver, instructor, patient advocate, risk assessor and team member. Acute Care Surgical Staff RN
Bay Pines is seeking an experience staff RN who can provide care to pre- and post-op surgical patients. Surgeries range from general surgery, urology, orthopedic, gastric bypass, plastics, vascular and more. The professional RN will autonomously provide physical assessments and design a plan of care based on those observations and previous medical orders and history as well as admission assessments and primary nursing care. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to wound assessment and dressing changes, pain management IV therapy, medication administration, nursing diagnosis, treatment plans, point of care testing, team leading, as well as patient and family education. They will occupy a leadership role with oversight of LPN and UAPs. The incumbent will be required to participate in interdisciplinary rounds, unit base council, projects and committees. RN will perform other duties under the direction of the nurse manager or designee as assigned. This position may require standing and walking for extended periods of time as well as hearing and vision corrected to the near normal range.
Acute Care Med-Surg Staff RN:
At Bay Pines we are seeking responsible RNs for providing and coordinating the direct and indirect total nursing care for patients within the general med-surg, neurological or oncology population. They should be prepared to use the nursing process to assess, diagnose, manage, implement and evaluate nursing actions. The primary responsibility of the oncology nurse is to assist the oncologist in treating and caring for cancer patients, or high-risk patients who don’t have cancer but are at risk of developing it. The chemo-certified nurse will administer chemotherapy and other treatments as directed by the oncologist. They will also be active in the treatment of any side-effects a patient might have after receiving treatment.
Other responsibilities will include but are not limited to blood transfusions; medication administration; conducts physical assessments; maintains patients records; assists with patients treatment plan; schedule tests; provide emotional stability and a positive atmosphere for both the patient and family; provides counseling and education for patient and family. Additionally, he/she will update treatment plans and provide point of care testing as well as team leading. He/She will occupy a leadership role with oversight of NAs and LPNs.
Qualification statement:
The Staff Nurse at Bay Pines VA Healthcare System must be a US Citizen. They must be registered in a U.S. State or territory as a Registered Nurse with an active, current, full and unrestricted license. The incumbent is a graduate of a state approved nursing school and accredited by either the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). He/she has an Associate Degree or Diploma and approximately two to five years professional nursing practice or has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with three years of successful professional nursing practice. He/she has the physical and mental capability to satisfactorily perform assigned duties. Maintaining a current BLS is required, ACLS for critical care areas.
