UHS is a family of health services organizations that exists to improve the health of the communities we serve by developing and maintaining a comprehensive and cost-effective health care system. It is one of the leading health care institutions in Upstate New York's Southern Tier. We are a not-for-profit organization, operated for the public benefit. Formed in 1981 through the consolidation of three community hospitals, UHS employs more than 5,000 people. UHS Hospitals is the regional referral center for such medical specialties as cardiac surgery, neurosurgery, renal dialysis, neonatal intensive care, trauma care, reconstructive surgery, chemical dependency care and physical rehabilitation. It also is the home of the Decker Center for Advanced Medical Treatment and a Cancer Care Center, and is a major teaching affiliate of the Clinical Campus at Binghamton of Upstate Medical University located in Syracuse, NY.
