About the Organization

General Introduction
------------
The Ohio Association of Community Health Centers (OACHC) is a not-for-profit professional trade association representing Ohio's Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs, or community health centers) and Look-Alike (FQHC-LA) networks. OACHC's fundamental purpose and support is to ensure equal access to high-quality, affordable health care for all Ohioans through the growth and development of Ohios Community Health Centers. OACHC is dedicated to the promotion of high-quality, family-oriented, culturally competent health care with a special focus on Ohioans living in medically-underserved areas. OACHC provides primary and preventive health care and care management services regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.

FQHCs are private, non-profit or public organizations that receive federal grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) through Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act. OACHC represents Ohio's 41 Community Health Centers at over 200 locations, including 3 mobile units in 47 of Ohios 88 counties. In 2011, Community Health Centers provided care to over 500,000 Ohioans and recorded well over 1,900,000 patient visits. Collectively, Community Health Centers are the largest health care system in the nation, and are considered the best program within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (www.expectmore.gov).


Continuing Education
--------------
FQHCs generally support physician's efforts to maintain CMEs. Most provide paid time off for such training events and will fund the training programs as well

FQHCs provide a full range of benefits to their employees- including health care, malpractice coverage for physicians, relocation allowances in some instances, productivity based incentives, 2-3 weeks paid vacation in the first year.
