Fort HealthCare provides quality healthcare to the residents of an eight-community area, and has the only hospital in Jefferson County. The hospital is a modern, fully accredited, acute care facility with 49 beds. About the Community
Located in Jefferson County, WI, about halfway between Madison and Milwaukee, Fort Atkinson is the perfect Wisconsin getaway destination. There are countless options for those who enjoy hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, and exploring. The Rock River flows through the city and the smaller Bark River joins it on the eastern edge of town. The Glacial River Bike Path, with its charming, covered bridge, crosses through the heart of the city. To the southwest of the city lies Lake Koshkonong, the 8th largest lake in the state by surface area. Dorothy Carnes Park & Rose Lake State Natural Area is on the Northwest edge of Fort Atkinson. Bark River Nature Park & Haumerson's Pond is on the west side of town. Numerous other beautiful natural areas, including Koshkonong Effigy Mounds, are a short drive or bike ride away. Famed poet Lorine Niedecker hails from nearby Blackhawk Island. A Panther Intaglio Effigy Mound ground depression--the only remaining reverse mound in Wisconsin--is in Fort Atkinson. The Fireside Dinner Theatre, one of the Midwests most popular entertainment destinations and the only Actors Equity dinner theatre in Wisconsin, has celebrated nearly sixty years as a beloved destination for couples, families, and tour groups alike. Additional attractions include the Hoard Historical Museum, beautiful riverwalk, and numerous unique shops and restaurants.
