About the Community
The Bangor area is home to over 100,00 people and offers an international airport, shopping malls and theatres, dozens of incredible locally owned restaurants, an excellent children's museum, a symphony orchesta, a casino, CMA nominated summer concert venue, annual music festivals on the famous waterfront, and much more. Just north of Bangor is the city of Orono, home of the flagship campus for the University of Maine, with over 10,000 full time students. Bangor is just 30 minutes from the scenic rocky coast, where locals enjoy kayaking and sailing, fishing and whale watching. Bangor is just an hour from Bar Harbor and world renowned Acadia National Park--recently named America's Favorite Place by Good Morning America! Acadia offers thirty miles of bicycle paths, plus picturesque hiking trails appealing to both novice and advanced climbers. About 90 minutes north, you also have Baxter National Park which is the home of Mt. Katahdin. To the west of Bangor, you have Moosehead lake, and Sugarloaf Mountain which is a well known ski resort all over the east coast. The city of Bangor boasts superb public and private schools, family friendly neighborhoods, and a very low crime rate--some of the reasons it is rated as one of the best cities in the US in which to raise a family. There is something for everyone, here in Bangor.
