About the Community
Arcata is a beautiful place to live and work, nestled between the redwoods and the sea 10 miles north of Eureka. Home of Humboldt State University, Arcata offers many of the amenities of larger cities (music, art, educational programs, lectures, cuisine, boutiques, and night life) while retaining a community feel. College of the Redwoods, a community college, provides further educational opportunities just a few miles south.
Our local schools are excellent, and housing in the area is very affordable, with more Victorian architecture than perhaps anywhere else on the West Coast. The County is an artistic haven, with the second highest number of artists per capita in the state of California. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts flock to Humboldt County, which offers outstanding opportunities for beachcombing, surfing, river rafting, kayaking, golfing, hiking, camping, sailing, fishing, cycling, rock climbing, and more.
