North Country Hospital is a 25 bed critical access private, nonprofit acute care community hospital with physician practices serving twenty communities in a two-county area in the rural Northeast Kingdom of Vermont.
Located on 30 acres in a quiet, easily accessible part of the City of Newport, NCH blends medical expertise and technology with a genuine concern for people. Our staff of 605 includes 40 employed physicians and 14 mid-level practitioners. The active medical staff of 53 physicians includes 5 rural health clinics, 6 area Patient Centered Medical Homes, and numerous board certified specialists. NCH was named one of the top 100 critical access hospitals by the National Rural Health Association.
The hospital medical staff has limited sub-specialists but has an excellent group of necessary practitioners including general and orthopedic surgery, ob/gyn, pediatrics, neurology, pulmonary medicine, sleep center, radiology, pain clinic, ophthalmology. The hospital is also served by visiting cardiology, nephrology, and hematology/oncology. There is an out patient dialysis center.
Newport, Vermont is on the Canadian border and is the northern anchor of the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. This is the most unspoiled portion of the most beautiful state in the eastern US. Mountains, lakes, rivers, forests are dotted with lovely small towns. Outdoor recreation abounds, including hiking, cycling, downhill skiing, cross country skiing, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and golf. Newport sits on the southern edge of Lake Memphremagog, a 24 mile international lake that stretches up into Canada. Jay Peak is 20 minutes away, providing unrivaled downhill skiing, as well as a new indoor water park and a championship golf course. The area is growing with investments in new industry and recreational opportunities. Schools are excellent and real estate is affordable.
