About the Community
The Alexandria VA Health Care System (AVAHCS) is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans within 23 of Louisianas 64 parishes. The main facility is in Pineville, Louisiana with community based outpatient clinics (CBOCs) that are VA staffed in Fort Polk, Jennings, Lafayette, Lake Charles (Douglas Fournet VA Clinic), and Natchitoches, Louisiana. This health care system provides outpatient care and inpatient care as follows: Primary Care; Inpatient acute medical care without an intensive care unit (no critical care) and a six-bed negative pressure COVID unit; Urgent Care Clinic with limited hours (no Emergency Department); Outpatient Mental Health Care; Inpatient Acute Psychiatric Care (excludes geri-psych); Outpatient Specialty Care including audiology, cardiology, ophthalmology, optometry, and speech pathology; Advanced Ambulatory Surgery; Dental Care for eligible Veterans; Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services; Telehealth Services in a variety of disciplines to facilitate access to care across the entire health care systems geographic area; and Community Living Center at the Pineville, Louisiana campus which includes a Palliative Care Unit and Alzheimers Unit.
