ABOUT US
Senior PsychCare, in affiliation with Senior Psychological Care (SPC), is a leader in innovative care for age-related problems in nursing home and assisted living facilities. It is our pledge to provide compassionate service, care, and treatment for the emotional, social, and physical well-being of the elderly, their families, and caregivers.
Dr. Leo Borrell founded Senior PsychCare in the 2000. In addition, he founded West Oaks Hospital in the 1970s and Stafford Meadows Substance Abuse Treatment Center in the 1980s. Dr. Borrell has made significant contributions to the community though his teaching and learning with his involvement at the University of Texas Medical School and Baylor College of Medicine. He believes the advances in mental health care can be of substantial benefit to the number of again baby boomers.
Our Approach
SPC utilizes a fully integrated behavioral health care model consistent with Best Practice and the five components of Geriatric Psychiatric Services which include:
1. A multi-disciplinary team approach.
2. Specific geriatric expertise and competence resulting in early diagnosis and treatment which can prevent, control, minimize and even reverse the number of medical problems that can arise in elderly persons resulting in disturbed behavior and deterioration.
3. Individualized assessment and treatment planning with routine follow up using standardized outcome measures.
4. Collaborative treatment planning between the psychiatric team and the nursing facility staff.
5. A strong educational component.
SPC provides integrated behavioral health care by using a team of dedicated professionals including Psychiatrists, Family Practice and Internal Medicine Physicians(With interest in Geriatrics) Licensed Psychologists, Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants, Licensed Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Professional Counselors, who have expertise and experience in geriatrics. All SPC professionals complete a geriatric training program to ensure that they are able to meet the specific needs of the long term care population.
Services Provided:
Psychiatric Services: Psychiatric evaluation and on-going psychotropic medication management.
Psychotherapy Services: Individual therapy, family therapy and group therapy.
Behavioral Rounds: Fully Integrated interdisciplinary care plan meetings with specific focus given to the reduction of psychotropic medications and behavioral problems as well as the residents progress toward treatment goals.
Transition of Care: SPC focuses on coordination and continuity of care, facilitates resident adjustment to the nursing home, and ongoing clinical treatment and management with the active engagement of residents, family, nursing home staff which can reduce hospital readmission and noncompliance with care.
Assessment and Evaluations: SPC can assist the nursing home in screening patients for a wide variety of behavioral health problems and provides psychological and neuropsychological evaluations as well as competency assessments.
Staff and Community Education: In-services tailored to meet the needs of each nursing home are provided upon request.
