About the Community
Appropriately called the "Ocean State," Rhode Island has more than 400 miles of scenic coastline, featuring more than 100 public and private beaches. Their pristine beauty is one of the state's most appealing attributes. The small state offers every kind of living from city life in the beautiful and conveniently sized city of Providence, to waterfront homes, and even bucolic rural landscapes of Portsmouth and Foster Glocester. No matter where you live in Rhode Island, you are never more than 40 minutes away from a world class restaurant or quality theater performance. Providence is known nationally for the quality of its wonderful restaurants, as well as its cutting edge Trinity Theater and Providence Performing Arts Center. A city known for its arts and culture, Rhode Island is the birthplace of Waterfire an art installation by Barnaby Evans that has been praised by Rhode Island residents and international visitors alike as a powerful work of art. WaterFires features over eighty sparkling bonfires set along the Providence river. The torch-lit vessels traveling down the river, and the enchanting music from around the world engage all the senses and emotions of those who stroll the paths of Waterplace Park. Providence hosts more than 15 Waterfire events per year, May through December. Because of its size, Rhode Island citizens are able to enjoy smooth drives across town with a minimum of traffic jams and hold ups. Family life in Rhode Island is especially good with strong communities and numerous high quality public schools and universities. Rhode Island is also known for its excellent quality private education for both high school and college students alike.
