About the Organization
We are located in Tenaha, TX. Bi-lingual (Spanish speaking) preferrable. J-1s are welcome. If you have outstanding school loans you would qualify for loan reimbursement. We are an FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) and are located in a MUA and HPSA. We are in the hunting and fishing heaven of East Texas approximately 60 miles s/sw of Shreveport, LA. A great place to raise children. 40% of our patients are native Spanish speakers. For a board-certified physician we could offer an opportunity to become an Adjunctive Professor with a medical school (we're looking at Texas A&M, U.Texas, Baylor and Texas School of Osteopathic Medicine) who would send us students on a rural medicine rotation. We started this clinic because of the great need. Shelby County has no county hospital district, no indigent care program for anyone who earns more than $196/month. The need here is great, the job satisfaction is even greater.
At this point in time, we are almost an all female organization (except for a delightful dentist whose dominant hormone is testosterone) with strong women who get along very well together. Our turnover rate is near-zero. We grow our own and are currently sending three employees to college for degrees as well as unskilled personnel to programs for skills. We have a brand new culposcope and ultrasound machine as well as fetal monitor. We are planning to get tele-medicine within the year. The nearest hospital is in Carthage 15 miles away. ETMC in Carthage which has hospitalists, a pediatrician and a surgeon, and coming on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, an OB, a urologist, a pulmonologist, a cardiologist and an endocrinologist. This project is a labor of love and your heart will be in it.
