About the Organization
Newport Hospital & Health Services is a Washington municipal corporation [Pend Oreille County Public Hospital District No. 1]. NHHS operates a 24- bed Critical Access Hospital (CAH) with a Trauma Level IV emergency department, a 72-bed advance care assisted living facility, a 42-bed assisted living facility, and a fully-integrated rural family practice clinic.
NHHS employs six primary care physicians, five emergency room physicians, five health care affiliates, two Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, an Outpatient Wound provider, two General Surgeons, an Orthopedic Surgeon, and a Gynecological Surgeon. We offer complete obstetrical care including epidural anesthesia and Cesarean deliveries in a private, family setting.
As with most rural locations, NHHS cares for a significant population that qualifies for Medicare/ Medicaid coverage (approximately 65% of our service delivery). We have committed to employ physicians in order to ensure that residents have full access to care in their home community, both primary and specialty care. We believe the model allows for physicians to focus on the practice of medicine and clinical oversight and leaves insurance contracting, service billing, regulatory oversight and staff management to NHHSs managers and leadership team with MD directorships.
About the Community
Pend Oreille County is in the northeastern corner of Washington, bordered by Idaho to the east and British Columbia, Canada to the north. The central geographic feature of the county is the forested valley carved by the north-flowing Pend Oreille River. Three major ski resorts are within 45 minutes of Newport. Lakes, rivers, and miles of forest and trails offer an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. While rural, we are located only 45 miles north of Spokane, WA, a regional economic hub (a USA, Top 100 MSA) which offers additional shopping, dining, and entertainment options, as well as access to an international airport.
In addition to available outdoor activities, Pend Oreille County is one of the few areas in the Country that offers high speed fiber optic connections (100Mb) to the home, enabling tremendous opportunity to effectively stay in touch and interact with colleagues and family anywhere in the world.
