About the Organization
We have a unique mission at the Indian Health Service: to raise the physical, mental, social and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level. We are part of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services, serving nearly two million American Indians and Alaska Natives through a network of 45 state-of-the-art hospitals and more than 293 clinics throughout 35 states.
IHS physicians live and work in or near the communities they serve, experiencing unique Tribal cultures and traditions. When not working, they enjoy ample opportunities for outdoor recreation in some of the most spectacular geographic areas of the United States. We are a rural health delivery system with a focus on primary and preventive care and currently seek physicians for full time employment in the following specialties:
Emergency Medicine
Primary Care (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Med/Peds, Pediatrics)
General Surgery
Internal Medicine/Hospitalist
Supervisory/administration (Medical Directors, Department Supervisors)
Radiology
If professional growth, fulfillment, and a work-life balance are important to your career plans, then consider joining the dedicated public health professionals in the Indian Health Service.
About the Community
The Phoenix Area Indian Health Service (PAIHS) oversees the delivery of health care to Native American users in the tri-state area of Arizona, Nevada and Utah. The Phoenix Area is comprised of eleven regional areas referred to as service units. Service units are located across central Arizona, northern Nevada and Northwestern Utah. The facilities range from small ambulatory care clinics to full service hospitals. Most of the facilities are located on Indian reservations. We provide health care and community health services to approximately 180,000 American Indians/Alaska Natives and are a health care partner to over forty tribes.
Our Service Units employ over 2,400 staff. Services are comprehensive and range from primary care (inpatient and outpatient) to tertiary care and specialty services. In addition, dental services, behavioral health, public health nursing, health education, and environmental health services are provided.
