About the Organization
The National Guard has a long and proud tradition of service to the great nation. Before the Minutemen of the Revolutionary War fired shots heard around the world, Guard militia was protecting the early American colonists. In every conflict since, the National Guard has served with honor and distinction: The War of 1812, the War between the States, the Spanish-American War, World War I and World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom and more recently, Operation Iraqi Freedom. When you become a member of the National Guard, you can be proud to know that you are joining the storied ranks of our nation's oldest fighting force. What makes the National Guard different from all other services is its unique dual mission. The Guard is called to serve both our country and our communities. As a medical professional in the North Carolina National Guard, you will fulfill your commitment to help others as you support your state and country. There are many Guard units located in cities and towns all across North Carolina. When you serve you will be carrying on the centuries-old tradition of the Guard Citizen-Soldier. As a Medical Corps Officer, you'll be part of one of the most elite medical teams anywhere. The National Guard offers a very competitive incentive program for Medical Students, current Residents attending Residency or practicing Physicians. We currently offer student loan repayment, special pay, or a stipend each month for both Residents and Medical students. Join our family and support both your state and country one weekend a month, two weeks during the summer.
