About the Organization
Located in Crownpoint (pop 2500), New Mexico near the Four Corners region, the facility uses a Family Medicine model practicing full-spectrum patient care services to 25,000 on the Navajo reservation. The Indian Health Service Hospital is a NHSC site (HPSA-29) currently recruiting ER, FP, IM physicians, nurse practitioners, and midwives. Medical staff work 4 ten-hour days in ambulatory care and CME benefits are available in addition to the standard annual leave, sick leave, health insurance, life insurance, thrift savings plan, and other benefits. Recruitment and relocation incentives are often included. Hospital services consist of a 6 bed ER, 12 bed med/peds unit, & an Outpatient Department offering primary & urgent care. Services also include: dental, optometry, & mental health services, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology. Services: high-risk prenatal care, L/D referrals, ER care (trauma & orthopedics), inpatient & pediatrics. A variety of medical problems are managed: diabetes, hypertension & unusual illnesses (plague, Hantavirus, & snake bites).

Crownpoint while small offers a variety of options for entertainment, skill-building, and outdoor activities. Navajo Technical University classes: Navajo language, weaving, & cultural history, plus local teaching opportunities. Various church denominations offer services along with children's activities. Outdoor activities: downhill & cross-country skiing, camping, fishing, mountain biking & hiking. Driving distance to: Anasazi ruins (30 min), Santa Fe (3 hrs), Durango (2 hrs), Taos (4 hrs), Southern Utah's Moab National Park (4 hrs), the Grand Canyon (5 hrs) & the nearest airport is Albuquerque, (2 hrs).
