The Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP) is a joint effort between the U.S. Peace Corps, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and Seed Global Health that aims to improve clinical education, expand the base of physician and nursing educators and build healthcare capacity in countries that face critical shortages of healthcare providers. GHSP sends qualified physicians and nurses to serve as educators in Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda. These Volunteers work in one year assignments to build healthcare capacity in the communities where they serve. Since GHSP launched in 2012, 73 physician and nurse Volunteers have reached over 3,500 medical and nursing students.
The Global Health Service Partnership (GHSP) helps address critical shortages of qualified health professionals where they are most needed. The goal is to increase local capacity and strengthen the quality and sustainability of medical and nursing education and clinical practices. The GHSP responds to an expressed host country demand, advances PEPFAR's commitment to training and retaining 140,000 health-care workers in countries with high disease burden, and also provides an innovative volunteer opportunity for U.S. citizens to collaborate with faculty peers as educators in resource-limited settings.
